George McSweeney was our latest lucky Junior Club Match Day Mascot winner and did a great job leading the team out ahead of Munster v Newport Gwent Dragons on Friday February 10th in Irish Independent Park. He tells us about his day here…

Thursday February 2nd was just like any other day – or so I thought! When Mom collected me from school she had the news that my name had been chosen out of the raffle to be the mascot for the Munster V Newport Gwent Dragons Game in Independent Park the following Friday!! I didn’t really believe her, I never win anything! Shortly afterwards we got the email confirming it from the Junior Supporters Club. Then the excitement really began!

On the Friday of the game all my family went to support Munster. Dad and I were dropped off to meet Shauna and I got to meet the other mascot for the day. Shauna firstly took us to the club shop and got me kitted out in the Munster gear. After that she took us into the dressing rooms, the team were doing the warm up on the pitch so we got to have a good look around.

The dressing rooms were fascinating. I saw all the jersey’s hanging up and ready for the players. Dad and I took some pictures. My favourite part was the table of treats! The club nutritionist spoke to us about what they like to eat before a game and the top ups they have at the half time break. There was all sorts of things on offer. I was delighted to see that some of the lads like Jaffa Cakes as they are my favourite too. We also got to see the ice baths. They looked freezing and it was such a cold night outside I couldn’t imagine having to sit in one!

Then it was on to the tunnel to wait for Tyler, the team captain. While I was waiting the referee came out and spoke to me. I could hear the crowds singing Stand up and Fight and I was so excited. Then the moment of truth!! Tyler came and took my hand and we walked out onto the pitch. It was so cool to hear the crowd roaring and to see the packed stadium from the pitch – it was a moment I’ll never forget and by far my favourite moment of the whole night!

After we had a photo taken with Tyler we were taken back to the tunnel where my Dad was waiting – we took our seats in the stand with the rest of my family and watched an outstanding winning Munster performance. To top off a super evening I managed to catch the ball when it went out of play so I even got to be part of the match.

All in all it was one of the best experiences of my life and I wish I could do it all again. Thanks to everyone in the Junior Supporters Club for making one of my dreams come true!
