Annual USA Branch Pilgrimage to Thomond Park

The members of MRSC USA Branch and Morris Rugby Club NJ are combining forces for the third year in a row to bring a group of rugby mad supporters to the last pool game in the European Champions Cup – Munster v Sale Sharks.

The group consists of Munster supporters from NY, NJ, CT, PA, and CA.  A mixture of Americans, Irish, Welsh, Canadians, and Australians all shouting for Munster! In 2013 a combination of both branches attended the Munster v Racing Metro match and in 2014 the Munster v Edinburgh game.  For some this is part of an annual pilgrimage, for others Munster v Sale Sharks will be their first venture to Thomond Park.

The whirlwind trip has a packed out itinerary.

The group will be arriving in to Shannon Airport Friday morning, the 23rd of January and on to Bunratty Castle/Durty Nelly’s, King John’s Castle, Adare, and finally Castleisland, Co. Kerry.  That evening they will get a lesson on Greyhound racing at the Tralee track, followed by a trad music session in the Red Experience pub Browne’s in Castleisland.

Saturday they will do a quick tour of Killarney or Tralee (if they are up to it) and then play a Golden Oldies game against Castleisland RFC who were very good hosts last year.  This will be followed by a session and some craic in the Castleisland rugby clubhouse.

Sunday will see the group make their way up to Thomond, and meet and greet the local supporters in the MRSC bar before the game.  Some of the visitors will receive the privilege to take part in the Guard of Honour and few pints after the game in the MRSC Bar may also be necessary.  Sunday night will probably involve a stop off in a few of Limerick’s great rugby pubs.

Monday morning it will be “home” to the States for the weary travellers and back to watching games via the internet and in Munster friendly pubs such as Mulligans in Hoboken, NJ and Tír na nÓg, The Kent Ale house, and The Courtyard in NY.
