Brussels Branch Take Perpignan

4th January 2014 By Munster Rugby Supporters Club

Brussels Branch Take Perpignan

Over 25 Munster fans from Brussels took to the air to fly to the south of France to support Munster in the return leg against Perpignan. The Brussels Branch of MRSC regularly supplies support for the team but especially when they play away in France. Most of us flew to Carcassonne and travelled the rest of the way in self-drive cars. One group took the scenic route through hills and vineyards and had to seek directions in a lost village. The villager must have been expecting them as when they rolled down the car window to reveal their red jerseys he exclaimed – "Ah, Ronan O’Gara!!" We have been rewarded with great memories on our travels (the disappointments seem to fade in the memory) and Saturday’s trip will be remembered for a long time to come. When I commented to a fellow traveller at half-time that it was a tough game he replied that it was even tougher to watch!! And so it proved in the second half with tension dominating the mood of the game for players and fans alike. But our heroes rose to the occasion and gave us another great memory with victory achieved in the dying moments of the game. Like so many others we lingered on in the stadium to cheer the players as they completed their circuit of the pitch and showed their appreciation of the support in the stands. Then it was time to discover the delights of Perpignan – its restaurants and bars, and its rugby-friendly people. Roll on Gloucester and Edinburgh – here’s looking forward to a home quarter final.
