Nick Sweetnam from Cork was chosen as our MRSC Match Day Mascot on what turned out to be an extremely special occasion and had the job of leading the team out onto the pitch with Captain Peter O’Mahony ahead of Munster v Glasgow on Saturday. He tells us about his experience:

"I was very sad when I heard of Anthony Foleys’ passing in Paris before Munster’s first Champions cup match. When my brother told me I was going to be mascot for the match against Glasgow I was delighted. Especially with it being such an important occasion.

We left home early Saturday morning and met Kerry in Thomond Park, where he gave me the new Champions Cup kit which was really cool. We then went to the reception where we met Peter Stringer, Paul O’Connell, Keith Wood, Alan Quinlan and I got to see the President of Ireland walk by. I also signed the book of condolences for Axel."

""

"Next we met Elaine who was very nice and told us what was going to happen. Kerry brought us to see the dressing rooms where everything was set up for the team. I took lots of pictures, especially under the number eight. All the jersey numbers were faced to the wall for this special occasion."

""

"Next we went to the tunnel where we heard the Shannon club song, the Fields of Athenry, and Stand up and fight. The stadium was full and the atmosphere was just incredible. The teams came in and put on their match jerseys. The word Axel was written under the crest. Then Peter O’Mahony took my hand and we walked out onto the field. It was unbelievable!"

""

"Me and my Mum were standing on the pitch for the minutes silence for Axel before Sean brought us back down the tunnel and to our regular spot on the East terrace. It was a spectacular match. Munster won and got the bonus point. They were top class!

After the match, Sean let us back into the tunnel where he introduced me to a lot of the 2006 team. I shook so many famous hands that day. I was even lucky enough to be allowed into the dressing rooms to meet the whole team. They all signed my jersey. It was amazing. It was the best day of my life!"
