Exeter Travel Guide & Meeting Point

We’re all set for a huge clash with Exeter this Saturday at Sandy Park in the first of the two-legged round of 16 ties.

We’re all set for a huge clash with Exeter this Saturday at Sandy Park in the first of the two-legged round of 16 ties.

Here’s your comprehensive travel guide along with details of the MRSC meeting point:

HOW DO I GET TO SANDY PARK?

Sandy Park Stadium (EX2 7NN) is conveniently located just off Junction 30 of the M5, meaning travel to there from Devon and beyond is extremely straightforward.

Located also just 10 minutes away from Exeter International Airport or a short walk from either Digby & Sowton or Newcourt railway stations, access to match-days is simple and easy for all supporters.

Although on-site parking is not available on match-days other than those with official permits, Exeter Rugby Club have worked closely with their travel partners to ensure all supporters can arrive safely and on time by either walking, cycling, taking the bus or train. They also facilitate a drop-off service onsite prior to kick off, however any pick-ups are restricted to ONE HOUR after the final whistle. Please be aware that any pick-up arranged, private or taxi, will be turned away during this hour to allow safe pedestrian egress.

TRAVELLING BY CAR

Off-site, match-day parking, along with a FREE shuttle bus service is available at Exeter Business Park, Grenadier Road, Exeter (EX1 3UT). Book tickets here: Performance selection [Offsite Parking] – Exeter Chiefs

Guarantee your space by booking online before the game for £7 per vehicle, or limited spaces may be available on match-day (£10 per vehicle).

There are limited spaces for motorcyclists at Sandy Park on a match-day, however this is on a first come, first served basis.

There is no on-site car parking for supporters at Sandy Park on match-days, so they have worked very hard to produce a transport strategy which enables supporters, both home and away, to gain easy access to the stadium.

All car parks will be signposted clearly from Junctions 29 & 30 on the M5.

TRAVELLING BY TRAIN

The Exeter to Exmouth railway line runs right past the stadium with a regular service on match days.

Using the bridge over the A379, Digby & Sowton Station is less than 10 minutes’ walk from Sandy Park, while Newcourt Station is also an option for travelling fans and is also less than a 15 minute walk from the stadium.

Great Western Rail have set up a number of match-day special trains and anyone wishing to find out more should visit their website.

In addition, you can use their text feature which shows up to date train departures from their stations. If you text DIG or EXD (for Digby and St David’s respectively) to 84950 you will get an answer showing the next five or six departures with their expected times.  Supporters can also call 08457 48 49 50 to get an update on train times.

TRAVELLING BY BUS

There are three match-day specials which operate three hours before kick-off and for three hours after the final whistle.

Dartline – No 77: Travels from Exminster, picking up at Alphington, St Thomas, Fore Street (City Centre), Topsham Road (County Hall) and onto Sandy Park. Buses run every 15 minutes.

Dartline – No 78, starts at Exeter St David’s Station and picks up at the following destinations en route to Sandy Park: City Centre, Blackboy Road, Pinhoe Road, Sainsburys Pinhoe, Monkerton Link Road and Sowton Industrial Estate before arriving at Sandy Park.

Stagecoach – C bus, starts at Exeter St David’s Station and picks up at Cheeke Street (city centre), Heavitree (Co-Op) to Sandy Park and runs up to every 15 minutes. Fares for this service are £2.50 (Single) and £3.50 (Return).

Stagecoach also offers an Exeter Dayrider ticket for only £4. This gives unlimited travel on all their Exeter city buses, including the C bus service, so supporters can make the most of being in Exeter both before and after the match.

A group Exeter Dayrider is now also available. It costs just £8 and gives up to 5 people a day of unlimited travel in the Exeter Zone.

If you are travelling from outside of Exeter, Stagecoach operates regular services from a variety of locations – including Teignmouth, Dawlish, Exmouth, Topsham and Crediton – all of which terminate at the bus station where you can easily connect onto the C service. An Adult Explorer ticket will give unlimited travel on all Stagecoach buses. Child, family and OAP Explorer tickets are also available.  For route maps and information on tickets and timetables, please visit the Stagecoach Bus Website Stagecoach (stagecoachbus.com)

WALKING AND CYCLING

Those wishing to travel to Sandy Park by foot or bicycle can access the stadium via the bridge over the A379 and via the rear of the complex from Old Rydon Lane. There are a number of bicycle racks on site to park bikes.

Alternatively, you can hire a Co Bike electric bike for just £1 for 20 minutes from locations around the city and drop off at their official bike station at Digby and Sowton station.
