Remembering Garrett

Last week, we lost a giant and one of the foundation stones of Munster Rugby. Garrett Fitzgerald’s passing was mourned right across the sporting sphere and the official club statement captured all of our feelings when one line simply read; ‘we are heartbroken’.

Last week, we lost a giant and one of the foundation stones of Munster Rugby. Garrett Fitzgerald’s passing was mourned right across the sporting sphere and the official club statement captured all of our feelings when one line simply read; ‘we are heartbroken’.

One of the common refrains from Munster players throughout the years is about leaving the jersey in a good place for the next guy to come in, Garrett’s incredible legacy is guiding and forging a club right through the dawn of professionalism and making Munster a cherished name in world rugby. Leaving us in a better place is what constantly drove him.

Garrett was one of the chief architects of the MRSC and was always our biggest advocate. The supporters club that we call home would not exist without his influence.

Anytime you hugged a friend after a match winning try or felt silence for a crucial kick, anytime you approached the Millennium stadium or noticed Thomond starting to inch its way into the Limerick skyline; Garrett was the driving force behind it.

He plotted this vast, epic journey we’ve been on with Munster Rugby and he’s ensured the journey will never end.

Thank you Garrett, rest easy.
