The MRSC have compiled an Away Guide for any Munster supporters travelling to the Leicester Tigers game on December 17th. We hope you all have a safe and enjoyable trip.

The Overview

Munster play Leicester Tigers in Round 3 of Pool 1 in the European Champions Cup on Saturday 17th of December in Welford Road. We hope that this guide will give you some useful links and tips to make your weekend more enjoyable.

The MRSC have organised two official meeting points for this game, both within 5 minutes of each other and 15 minutes of Welford Road.

1.    Hogarths Pub

The MRSC London Branch will be selling specially commissioned Santa hats for £2 on the London to Leicester train and in the Hogarths meeting point from noon, which is also where Munster matchday flags will be available. Any profit from the sale of the hats will go towards their fundraising effort to sponsor a seat at the new Munster Training Centre in Limerick.

Duffy’s also have a number of offers including £2.50 on selected bottles, spirits and mixers and £1 shots. They are also offering £3 for Guinness, Carling and ale the hour before and after the game.

These offers will be given to those wearing Munster gear or on production of your membership card or match ticket over the weekend of the game (Friday 16th to Sunday the 18th) Both bars have a number of TV screens throughout and will be showing all other ECC action across the weekend.

The History

For the 2016/2017 Champions Cup Munster once again are drawn against the traditional powerhouse of English Rugby, Leicester Tigers.

Our history in these fixtures across the years range from the "Hand of Back" to "Rog in the Rain". The "sacking of Thomond" and last year’s back to back losses all serve to add to the spice of this year’s competition.

Getting There

By Plane

All airports in London, Birmingham and Luton have frequent connections to Leicester by rail, bus, by transfer or direct means. Travelline is a good public transport planning tool.

By Train

Leicester lies on the London-Sheffield and the Birmingham-Stansted lines

Approximate journey-times and frequencies of trains are:

From London (St Pancras station):70-90 minutes/four times an hour
From Birmingham (New Street station): 60 minutes/twice an hour
From Luton (Airport Parkway station): 60 minutes/hourly
From Stansted Airport: 2 hours 30 minutes/approximately hourly

Getting to the Stadium

Welford Road is situated at Aylestone Road, Leicester, LE2 7TR. It is within walking distance of the city centre (15-20 minutes). Click here for map of stadium location.

From London Road Railway Station

London Road Railway Station is a 15 minute walk from the stadium. Upon arrival turn right out of the station, cross the road, turn left on to Waterloo Way, continue to the top of the hill onto Tigers Way and Welford Road is directly in front.

One of the cultural hubs in Leicester is Melton Road where you can find many authentic shops and restaurants. Melton Road is also home to the city’s Diwali celebrations. Leicester’s Cultural Quarter has the Curve Theatre at its heart, along with fantastic bars and restaurants to really make an evening of a trip to the theatre.
