My Day As Mascot by Luke D’Arcy

Luke D’Arcy was one of the lucky MRSC Junior Club members who was chosen to be a match day mascot. He tells us about his ‘best day ever’.

Luke D’Arcy was one of the lucky MRSC Junior Club members who was chosen to be a match day mascot. He tells us about his ‘best day ever’.

On Friday 19th September we went to Thomond Park. I met Kerry from the Munster Rugby Supporters Club at The Munster Store at the ground. We went in and they brought me to the kit section and picked out the home kit in my size. There was a bag marked mascot and inside was matching shorts and socks the same as the players! I put on the kit and felt like Conor Murray and Paul O’Connell my favourite players.

Kerry then brought me into the stadium to the Home Team dressing room where I got lots of photos of me sitting where the players sit with the jerseys hung up. It was awesome to be in there. I was then brought into the tunnel where I could see the players warming up on the pitch.

As the players came off the pitch heading to the dressing room to put on their match jersey’s, Felix Jones stopped and said "give me 5 minutes and I’ll be out to join you and we will go out onto the pitch together ". As we waited I got photos with the referee and he gave me a red card in the tunnel (he said it’s the first time he had to do that) I hoped he was not going to give any of our players a card that night!

Felix came out of the dressing room, grabbed my hand and said "are you ready Luke?" I nodded. We ran out onto the pitch and as the crowd cheered I could see my mother at the end of the tunnel watching and waving. The photographers took photos of us on the pitch and then we rushed back to our seats to watch the game.

I watched a great match with Munster scoring 5 trys, Zebo got 3 of them. The lads were awesome. Munster won 31-5. After the game we went back to reception and I was asked if I would like to go to meet the players in the dressing room to get signatures. I jumped for joy I was so happy!

In the dressing room the team signed my programme and my Munster ball and Paul O’Connell signed my boots I wore on the day.

What a great day, thank you to the Munster Rugby Supporters Club! Some day if I keep training with Young Munster and grow up to be big and strong I might get to play for Munster like my heroes. I can’t wait to meet all the players again at the Junior Club Christmas Party. My Dad and I are going to watch Munster this week versus Scarlets – Come on Munster!
