Stories From Match Day Mascots

Stories From Match Day Mascots

A number of MRSC junior members get the opportunity to become team mascot for match day throughout the day. Here are two stories from previous mascots. Oscar Leamy O’ Donovan – Mascot at the Munster V Leicester Tigers in Musgrave Park That was the best day I ever had. It was the coolest thing to see the dressing room and to meet so many people that I only saw in pictures before. Everyone was very nice and friendly even though there was a match in a minute. Tony McGahan and Shaun Payne spoke to me Alan Quinlan was really nice and Jack Kiely even Mick Galwey was there. Denis Leamy didn’t have much time for chatting, he was concentrating on his rugby which was amazing, I was really glad he was the captain that day. I was much too excited to concentrate on the match and just enjoyed watching the teams and coaches at the touchline. I felt like I was spying! During half time my dad’s friend Billy took me to meet Paul O Connell, Barry Murphy, Tony Buckly, John Hayes, Marcus Horan, Donncha O Callaghan and especially Jerry Flannery. When I was going home I met Peter Stringer and I was so tired I couldn’t even ask for his autograph. It was a brilliant day I will never forget it, I probably left stuff out and I want to say thank you to everyone, to the players, coaches and staff who all took time to sign autographs and to talk and to Billy O Donovan (my dad’s friend) who explained everything cause my Da doesn’t know about rugby. Grandad is taking me to the Munster V Aironi Rugby game and this time I’m going to watch the match! (and maybe say "I met him!") Thank you very much for the best day ever!! Jordan Langley – Mascot at Munster V Aironi in Musgrave Park This was a birthday to remember….. to meet the players that I have seen play many times on TV and from the stands was a great honour. I went in to the players dressing room and was able to take pictures with all the players jerseys. Standing and waiting for the players to come back in from their warm up was very exciting. I also met the coaching staff and talked to Lifeimi Mafi and Marcus Horan. As well as shaking hands with many other players when they came back. While I was waiting for the players to come out of the dressing rooms for the game I heard the pre-match pep talk going on. No wonder they were so focused when they came out! When the players came out of the dressing room I followed Denis Leamy on to the pitch carrying the match ball and had my picture taken with him. The day finished with Munster beating Aironi and I was really glad that they won on the day that I was the lucky enough to be mascot. It was an amazing day and I
