Rail Information Over The Weekend

Member, Hassard Stacpoole, has done some research on Train services, on behalf of all Munster Supporters, over the weekend in the UK. Supporters are urged to leave plenty of time to travel to Cardiff if they are using the train. It is a bank holiday weekend here and also on Saturday Bristol City are playing in the football championships playoff in Wembley. Rail services will be very busy. Train operators have a decent level of service to Cardiff for the Final. For local services in the Cardiff area Arriva Trains Wales have put on extra trains and retimed some to accommodate the 1700 kick off and also extended services later into the evening after the match. Details can be found on their website at Arriva Trains First Great Western (FGW) First Great Western has put on a number of extra trains to and from London though they will not widely advertise them. They will be run as reliefs. These trains will either run direct to London or providing connections in Bristol. There will be a good service to the Bristol area as a lot of supporters will be staying in the area. It is a busy day Saturday for the railway as Bristol City is playing Hull in the Championship football play offs at Wembley stadium. There will be crowd control in place at Paddington and Bristol in the morning, and also at Cardiff in the evening. It is likely that Bristol will be very busy with both sets of fans moving towards Cardiff in the mid-morning period and also Bristol City fans travelling to Wembley. FGW have advised that Bristol Temple Meads will be busy particularly up to 1400 For fans travelling to Cardiff from London a number of trains are now full and FGW have said that to guarantee getting to Cardiff supporters need to make reservations for the outward journey as those without reservations may not be able to travel in time for the kick off. For those supporters who still wish to travel by rail , reservations are still available on the 0745 and 1345 from Paddington to Cardiff. There are no reservations available on trains from Cardiff after the match and returning trains will be on the first come first served basis.
