Special Award For Work With Supporters Club

Tony McGrath was rewarded for his work on the committee of the Supporters Club from May 2004 to last month with a special presentation at the Munster Rugby Awards Dinner last Saturday. The presentation was made by team captain, Paul O’Connell Below follows the basis for the award as included in the Programme of Events for the Awards Dinner: In recognition of his work with the Munster Rugby Supporters Club, Tony McGrath is being presented with a special award for Outstanding Contribution at this evening’s awards ceremony. Tony became involved with the Munster Rugby Supporters Club in 2003, and was elected to the committee at the first AGM in 2004. Tony took on the role of Chairman in his very first year, and began the process of bringing the Supporters Club to a new level. In the intervening period, the Supporters Club has grown from 1,400 to the current membership level of 10,000, a truly phenomenal achievement. Tony has held the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman and most recently Honorary Secretary – a post which he held until April 2008. Tony’s unrelenting drive, and attention to detail, combined with his enormous appetite for work, motivated and encouraged his fellow committee members to not only set demanding goals, but he also lead them to achieve these goals. Tony’s efforts not only helped bring the Supporters Clun into the professional era to mirror the Munster Rugby team – but also helped create a Supporters Club on a par with the very best in Eurpoe – not only in rugby but soccer too – and which is the envy of many other supporters clubs today. One of the greatest strengths of Munster Rugby is our supporter base. Nobody epitomises the dedication and commitment of a Munster Rugby supporter more than Tony McGrath does. So it is fitting that Munster Rugby wishes to acknowledge the contribution of all Munster Rugby supporters, that the award is received on their behalf by a truly supreme supporter – Tony McGrath Filed by D Desmond 14 May 2008
