Champagne Moments 16 Apr

Again, we would like to thank Shaun Payne for taking time to answer some questions from Supporters. What a week from the highs of Kingsholm – back down to earth at the RDS – I know it was Leinster but was it hard to get everybody motivated for the match? Its never hard to get people motivated for matches. But the difficulty was having a game of similar intensity to the one we had just a week previously. Besides that Leinster had a week’s rest and home advantage so it was always going to be a huge ask of the squad . Getting towards the end of the League season do you think the standard has improved over previous years and has this helped helped us in our European encounters? Yes I do believe the standard has improved and yes I believe it has helped in the Heineken. Case in pointis the game against Connacht a week before we played Gloucester I was in Kingsholm you looked very relaxed – what a great evening – you must have been disappointed not to be out there on the pitch? Of course I was, but that’s rugby, have to take the rough with the smooth. I’m sure had the roles been reversed Denis would have been disappointed too. The guys who got their chance in Gloucester really played well on the day – the squad appears to be stronger than ever before – how do you rate the current squad compared to when you first arrived? I wouldn’t be one for making comparisons. Let other people do that. The support for the team in Gloucester was unbelievable – where did we get all the tickets? I have really no idea. seems Munster supporters are particularly resoourceful when it comes to obtaining tickets. What do you think of Saracens and coming up against your old gaffer Alan Gaffney? I think it wll be very bit as difficult as anything we’ve faced this season. I have huge respect for Alan. He’s a top class coach. He knows us very well and he is particularly good at analysing opponents and identifying their vulnerable areas.
