Champagne Moments – 01 Nov

Once again, we would like to thank team manager, Shaun Payne from taking time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions from the Supporters Club. Did we learn more about Wasps from their draw against the Dragons this weekend than we learnt about ourselves in the draw against Glasgow? I don’t think you can read too much into either performance. Both ourselves and Wasps are readjusting as those players involved in the World Cup come back into the squads. That is never seamless. So really I wouldn’t be cheered by their performance – they will be a totally different proposition in two weeks time. Make no mistake about that. Do you think that Wasps have given up an advantage by moving the Heineken Cup match to a stadium where hopefully we will significantly out-number their supporters on November 10th? No, I don’t. You can be certain their decision wasn’t taken without consultation certainly with the captain and senior players If we get the support you suggest of course that will be a help, we all know how important our supporters are to us. But Wasps have played here before and just as importantly won, so they will feel pefectly comfortable in the Ricoh Standing at 15 you have had a great view of what Rua Tipoki is bringing to our back-line so far this season. What has impressed you most about his performances to date? His reading of a game, his angles of running and his awareness of what is unfolding. To what extent is a player being released to a Club for an AIL game an indication of their standing in terms of 1st XV selection? You are only allowed use 22 players on the day !! All our squad players are worthy of selection and we have seen the contribution that has been made by players who have subsequently been released to play AIL. We have a squad of 30 + players and so in my view its not a question a player’s standing at all. The previous Champagne Moments can be viewed HERE Filed by TonyMcGrath 011107
